The twelve housing units were built on a sloping plot of heavily wooded land. The building is situated on the northern edge of the site and runs east to west so that the main façade is facing south and the accommodation receives optimum natural lighting. The two-storey building follows the incline of the hillside, sloping away to the east. The individual units have a two-storey buffer zone to the north for circulation, which is lit from the sides and above via a glazed roof. Although the space lies in the north, the play between the slope to the roof and the north wall ensure direct sunlight. Its generous breadth of three metres (the circulation itself is 1.2 metres wide) allows for entrance transitional zones to the apartments to the maisonettes - correspond to the terminal zoning of the building (accommodation to the south, kitchen and ancillary rooms to the north). The room-high windows, reaching over four metres in height, integrate the bordering hornbeam woodland directly into the homes. |
